How to Remove Fleas From Carpeting

As soon as a couple of fleas hitch a ride on your dog or cat, it is not long before they multiply and take over your home. You can give your pet a flea bath, but until you deal with the fleas that are now living in your home, your pet will just become reinfested with fleas. One major place you will find fleas is in your carpeting. The fleas will cause a lot of itching for your pet and possibly the members of your household if you don't get them out of your carpet.

Instructions

    • 1

Vacuum your carpets. This will get up a large number of fleas. The important thing is that you immediately remove the vacuum cleaner bag and place it in a garbage bag. Tie up the garbage bag and dispose of it in an outdoor trash can.

Steam clean your carpets with soap in the water. Fleas cannot live in soapy water.

    • 3

Sprinkle salt all over your carpets if you still have fleas after vacuuming and steam cleaning. The salt will pierce the exoskeleton of the fleas. This will cause the fleas to dehydrate and die. Leave the salt on the carpets overnight, and then vacuum it up in the morning.

Spray an insect growth regulator (IGR) on your carpets as a last resort. This chemical will kill any fleas living in the carpet and stop any eggs from growing in to adult fleas.
