Location
-
Choose a spot in your yard that has well-draining soil. To check for good drainage, dig a hole and add 5 gallons of water. The water should all drain away within 48 hours. Also, remember to build your dog waste septic system away from the house, tree roots and vegetable gardens.
Process
-
Dig a hole in your yard just large enough to fit an old bucket or garbage can with a fitted lid. The hole should be deep enough so that the top lip of the can is just above the ground. The can will keep the side walls of your hole from collapsing as well as supply a cover for your hole.
System
-
Remove the bottom of the receptacle and put rocks in the hole for drainage purposes. About once a month add live enzymes, such as those designed for human septic systems, to your dog waste. Use water to flush the system after the enzymes have broken down the waste.

The Best Way to Dispose of Dog Waste
Proper disposal of dog waste is an issue all dog owners face. Dog waste can contain high bacteria levels and parasites. It is not supposed to be added to landfills, and it cannot be added to compost as it is not safe to put on crops such as those found in a backyard vegetable garden. Instead, build your own simple dog waste septic system to efficiently dispose of your dog's waste.
