Instructions

  1. The Process

    • 1

Measure your dog. Its size will determine the size of the purse. You will have to make sure your dog will be able fit in the purse comfortably. Measure the height (starting with its head), length and width of your dog. The height, length, and width of the dog purse should be four inches longer and taller than your dog's measurements.

    • 2

Cut out your material. You will need two side pieces that are the height and length of the dog (plus four inches) and two bottom pieces that are the width and length of the dog (plus four inches). Cut your plastic or cardboard to match the width and length of the dog.

    • 3

Fold the bottom edges of the side panels one-half inch over and iron flat. Also fold all edges of the two bottom panels one-half inch over and iron flat.

    • 4

Pin the two bottom pieces together leaving one edge open.

    • 5

Sew the bottom panels together (where the fabric is pinned) and flip the bottom panel inside out, making sure the hem gets flipped to the inside of the bottom panel.

    • 6

Place cardboard or plastic in the middle of the bottom panel and sew the remaining open edge shut.

    • 7

Sew each side panel to the the right and left side of the the bottom panel.

    • 8

Cut out your netting to make the other sides of the purse. You'll need two triangular netting panels, and they will need to measure as high as the two side panels and as wide as five inches (plus add one inch around the triangle for seam allowance). You can give the triangular panels a one to two-inch flat top so they do not come to a point.

    • 9

Sew the widest portion of the netting panels to the bottom panel of the purse and the sides of the triangular panels to the side vinyl panels. Make sure the top portion of the bag is open and not sewn shut.

    • 10

Follow the instructions given with the zipper, and sew it to the top of your bag.

    • 11

Using your cord, take about 6 to10 inches and hand-sew it to the inside of the bag. Attach your leash latch to the inside of the purse via the cord. This will act as a securing device and allow you to hook the purse to your dog's collar.

    • 12

Using your vinyl fabric, cut two shoulder straps that will be comfortable for you to wear. Sew these straps to the top and bottom of the side panels of the bag. Add a ribbon bow if desired.
