Instructions
Tackle any urine smells first because these are the toughest to overcome. If you see your dog urinating on the rug or sofa, use paper towels immediately to soak up all the urine. Mix dishwashing soap with water and pour on the urine spot on the carpet, and use a scrub brush, using circular motions. Use clear water to get all the soap out, and dab it as dry as possible with paper towels or a clean rag. For a sofa, just use water because the soap might stain the fabric. Dab dry with paper towels or rags. Wait until the areas dry thoroughly and then sprinkle a small amount of baking soda on the area where the urine was, wait an hour and vacuum. The same process can be performed on dried urine, but you will need to use a lot more scrubbing action.
Sprinkle baking soda on your area rugs where your dog normally lies or walks. This will greatly reduce musty dog smells that can be tracked in when your dog goes outside. Wait about an hour and then vacuum the rug very well. By using baking soda once or twice per month on your area rugs, you will keep them smelling fresh.
Shake some baking soda on your sofa, especially the area where your dog tends to lie. Wait an hour and the use your vacuum attachments to vacuum it off. If your sofa has removable cushions with the same fabric on both sides, flipping them regularly and using baking soda once per month will keep them fresh smelling.
