How to Use Disinfecting Foot Mats in a Kennel
Remove the mats from your kennel. Pull them completely out of the kennel, taking care to knock any hair or debris from your mat onto the kennel floor. Pick up any toys that your pets might have left in the kennel and set these aside with your mats.
Sweep the floor of your kennel. Hair, food bits and other foreign objects tend to accumulate under foot mats, so removing them is important to prevent damage to your mats.
Lean your mats against a stable surface, such as a wall or fence, and spray them generously with kennel disinfectant. Many people use bleach to sanitize their mats, but kennel disinfectants are specifically designed to be safe for use around domestic pets. If you have sensitive skin, you can wear a pair of heavy rubber gloves while using the disinfectant.
Pour a small amount of disinfectant on your kennel floor, scrubbing vigorously with a floor brush. The brush will work the disinfectant into cracks in the floor and will loosen any remaining hair stuck to the floor.
Rinse your kennel floor and your mats with a generous amount of water. Be sure to use enough clean water so that no traces of disinfectant remain to prevent your pets from ingesting it. Allow all surfaces to dry completely before replacing your mats inside the kennel.
