Grants for Shelters

Millions of dollars are awarded each year to animal welfare organizations in the form of grant monies. Grants are awarded to organizations who apply for grants that meet specific needs. Public- and private-funded animal shelters are eligible for grants to assist in offsetting operating and program costs.

    Public vs. Private

    • A public animal shelter is a facility that is funded by tax dollars. A private animal shelter is funded by private donations.

    Spay Neuter Programs

    • Rarely does every kitten find a home.

Grants for spay neuter programs are awarded to assist in the costs of surgical sterilization of cats and dogs. Bob Barker's DJ&T Foundation has donated millions of dollars to organizations.

    Medical Needs

    • Grants are available to assist organizations with the medical costs associated with sick or injured animals requiring expensive veterinary care. Maddie's Fund awards grant money as well as medical equipment to assist animals with medical needs.

    Special Programs

    Recipients

    • Organizations who receive grant monies do so by applying for specific grants and following the guidelines of the grant maker. Applicants should have a clear idea of how they plan to use the award and should ensure the proposal is clearly delivered in a professional manner
