Blot the Urine
-
Before you apply any home remedy, first cover the wet area with a few paper towels. Then press the towels firmly with your foot. Dispose of the wet towels, and repeat the process, until you cannot extract any more urine. If the urine has already dried, go to the next step.
Vinegar Solution
-
Mix 1/4 cup each of vinegar, a citrus cleaner, Borax and trisodium phosphate (TSP) with one gallon of water. Mix this solution thoroughly. Then apply the solution on the affected area and let it sit for 10 to 15 minutes. Then remove all moisture, using rags, or a paper towel as in the previous step. Use a vacuum to extract any remaining moisture. The odor and stain should both be removed.
Baking Soda and Hydrogen Peroxide Solution
-
For this remedy, gather a liquid dishwashing detergent, 3 percent hydrogen peroxide, white vinegar, and baking soda. First, make a solution using equal aprts water and white vinegar. Apply a moderate amount of this solution on the stain. Rub it vigorously with a scrubbing brush to penetrate deep into the fibers below. Now blot out the moisture with the paper towel method previously mentioned. Then vacuum to remove all moisture.
Next, sprinkle a fistful of baking soda on the stained patch. Then, pour a solution of 1/2 half cup of 3 percent hydrogen peroxide and 1 tsp. of regular liquid dishwashing detergent. Rub this solution and the dissolving baking soda thoroughly into the affected area. Wait for the area to dry naturally, then vacuum to clean it completely.
Note that you may need to repeat the process with either remedy, if the urine patch is difficult to remove.
