Vacuum your entire house. This includes your carpets and other flooring, along with upholstered furniture. Pay special attention to corners, cracks in the floor, under furniture and dark areas. Use the nozzle attachment on your vacuum to clean your baseboards and around fixtures. Vacuuming will not only eliminate fleas from your floor, but it will also get rid of any eggs, larvae and pupae making a home in your flooring. The vibrations that your vacuuming creates will encourage fleas to leave their cocoons, therefore exposing them to the insecticide that will be used shortly. You can also have professional carpet cleaners steam your floors. The steam will kill all stages of fleas except their eggs.

Apply insecticide to your flooring. This can be in the form of bombs or spray. Whatever your method of choice may be, it is essential that you and your pets are out of the house to avoid breathing in the chemicals and other potentially harmful ingredients that are in the products. Use a bomb or spray that contains IGR. Sprays are usually the easiest and most effective products to use. It is difficult for bombs to reach under furniture and in corners, but bombs are popular because they essentially do all of the work for you. Sprays allow you to treat virtually every area of your home with just a little effort.

Treat your pet for fleas. It is most likely that your floor has fleas because your animal did. But if the fleas were there first, your pet will inevitably become infested. Therefore, it is important to treat her. Use a once-a-month preventative like Advantage or Frontline, which will both kill what's on your pet, along with preventing future infestations.
