How to Obtain a Pet Passport in Italy

Specific regulations exist for taking a pet into or out of Italy. A pet microchip or pet scanner is required for the pet's safety. Two sets of guidelines exist for pets traveling into any part of Europe. A complete list of rules exists for pets embarking from a country with either a low or a high reported incidence of rabies. As of September 2009, the United States was considered a low rabies incidence country.

Instructions

      Log onto the pet passport website (classypets.com) and select Immigration Form EU 998 Italy.

      Order and download online the pet passport package. The package includes the passport form, airline veterinary certificate and instruction manual. Save and print all forms.

      Purchase an acceptable pet microchip or scanner to meet the travel requirements. Carry paperwork relating to the microchip installation when traveling.

      Schedule an appointment with a veterinarian no more than 30 days before traveling to or from Italy. Have the veterinarian give all the shots required on the pet passport, and sign the form.

      Purchase a pet carrier that meets the specifications for traveling to or from Italy.
