How to Get Rid of Pet Urine Smell

Urine smell is an inevitable part of owning a dog or cat, especially if you've got a puppy. They need to go. They need to go a lot. They need to go when they wake up, when they go to bed, when they get excited, when they get scared, whenever. Most cats will use a litter box or go outside, and most dogs will learn to avoid the floors after some serious training, but some pets never learn. Some go because they're home alone too much, so go because they're angry, some go just because. Here are a few quick steps you can take to eliminate the smell of urine from your house.

Instructions

    • 1

If you don't know where urine stains are, cut the lights and use a black light to find the glowing purple spots on the carpet. If you know where the spots are, skip this step.

    • 2

Create a mixture that's 50 percent vinegar and 50 percent water. Use a liberal amount to reach the fibers in the carpet and scrub with the scrub brush.

    • 3

Blot the area with paper towels until dry.

    • 4

Sprinkle baking soda onto the area.

    • 5

Mix hydrogen peroxide with liquid dish detergent and rub it into the baking soda, first using your gloved hands, then scrubbing with the scrub brush. Allow to dry and then vacuum it up. Repeat if necessary.
