Cure for Kennel Cough

The worst thing any dog owner wants to hear is that his dog has kennel cough. To a new pet owner, it may even sound scary. Kennel cough is a contagious upper-respiratory infection that can be caused by several different viruses. What you can do is attempt to cure it with a home remedy or wait it out.
  1. Don't Do Anything

    • Kennel cough may cure itself in two to three weeks if left untreated. Keep in mind, this only applies to mild cases. A more serious cough will require medical treatment.

Have a Vet Prescribe Your Dog

    • A bacterial infection medicine may be necessary. Take your dog to the vet for a prescription that prevents an infection or combats the existing one. Dog bacterial infections are similar to those found in humans.

    Home Remedies

    • Operating a vaporizer at home will relax your dog and regulate breathing. Running a shower on the highest level to steam your bathroom creates a sauna-like setting that will also help your dog. You can additionally give your dog echinacea three times daily. Of course, always be careful when giving your dog too much of any drug, herbal or not.
