How to Write Pet Sympathy Cards

Losing a close pet can be as traumatic as losing a family member. Expressing your sympathy to those you care about can help them with their grieving and show them that someone cares. Pet sympathy cards available at stores may not express your feelings adequately, but writing your own sentiments doesn't have to be difficult. Think about the family and the pet, and begin from there.

Instructions

    • 1

Purchase a blank card, without or with an appropriate image on the front, or create your own out of cardstock. Decorate the front of the card with images of sympathy, such as flower stamps or diecuts.

    • 2

Before actually writing inside the card, draft a version of what you would like to say on a separate piece of paper or on the computer. You can revise or edit more easily, then write or print out your finished sentiment to place in the card.

    • 3

Consider sharing the last memory you have of the owner's pet. List funny and memorable events you remember about the deceased animal. Use words that describe you how much sympathy you have for the pet owner and how you feel sorry about the death.

    • 4

Include a recent photograph of the pet inside the pet sympathy card, if possible.

    • 5

Consider writing a heartfelt poem and placing it inside the pet sympathy card as well.

    • 6

If there are children involved, use words that are easy for them to understand.

    • 7

Include an offer to spend the day with the pet owners to take their minds off their loss.
