How to Clip a Dog's Hair

When Fluffy starts to look a bit scruffy, you can clip him at home to save money. Start grooming your dog as a puppy, if possible, to get him used to the sounds and feeling of being clipped. Reward him with lots of praise and treats. Clip your dog according to his breed standard to make sure your best friend looks his best.

      Start clipping your dog on his belly, armpits, near the groin and the behind. Clip with the grain of your dog's hair. Move to his legs and paws.

      Clip your dog's back from neck to tail. Clip the back of his head. If your dog has loose skin, hold it taut while running the clippers over it.

      Comb the hair on your dog's face up and use scissors to trim it. Trim the hair between his paws with scissors as well.

      Brush your dog to get rid of the the hair clippings.
