Because you want a safe home for your dog, screen potential buyers by asking them pertinent questions. Determine whether they live in a home that allows dogs and provides exercise opportunities. Ask whether they have owned a dog, what other pets they own and whether they have small children. Answer their questions about your dog's health status and why you are letting it go truthfully.
When you give your dog to the new owner, bring all of the dog's veterinary records, its toys and bedding, and documents showing that you transferred ownership.
