Depending on the size of your dog there are several options for taking your dog with you on a bike ride. For dogs that are under 10 pounds, riding in a bicycle basket that attaches to your handlebars would work just fine. Please be sure to secure your furry friend in the basket using a harness.

It gets a little more difficult as your pets size increases. There are padded pet carrier type baskets available that attach on a rack on the rear of your bike. These types of carriers can support dogs up to 20 pounds and can be purchased online. Can't you just feel your ears flapping in the wind?

My dog is a bit larger, so I had to find a way to bring her along that would be fun and safe for her. I purchased a Burley at a garage sale for little money, cleaned it up and then had to think of how to keep her in it safely. I put her harness on, placed a pillow in the Burley where children's feet would rest to make the seating area larger, then placed my dog inside. Using a leash I wrapped it around the seat back frame and tied it securely. I then attached the Burley to my bike and off we went. She had a great time spending the day with us bike riding.
