The first places to start are with your doctor and veterinarian. Get a checkup and get your dog checked as well. Have your doctor and vet outline a fitness program. It's important that you don't overexert or injure yourself or your dog.

    • 2

Once you get checked out you can take the "President's Challenge." The President's Challenge is a program that encourages all Americans to make being active part of their everyday lives. No matter what your activity and fitness level, the President's Challenge can help motivate you to improve.

    • 3

Start earning Presidential awards for your daily physical activity and fitness efforts. No matter what age, you can sign up to learn how to adapt the President's Challenge to your own needs (see Resources below for the link).

    • 4

Do a variety of physical activities outside with your dog. Hiking, jogging, swimming and walking are all great activities for you to do together.

Have fun with this and include the whole family if you can. Good luck!
