How to Make Pet Loss Cards

One of life's most devastating losses is that of a beloved pet. You can slightly extend a pet's short life for an owner by creating a pet loss card. This card will be inexpensive to make but treasured for its individuality and thoughtfulness. You can make it by hand or on the computer. Unique because each is designed for the pet and the owner, the card serves as a memorial to the time spent together. Whether you make it to give to a friend or as a tribute to your own pet, the card will help keep the memory of a deceased pet alive permanently.

  1. Creating Your Pet Loss Card

Choose a format for your card. To express a brief note of sympathy, you might want to use a notecard. If you want to reminisce at length with a memory or two, a standard 8.5x11 sheet of paper, either open or folded in half, might be preferable.

If your cover design is simple, you might want to choose a border to accompany the wording or photo. Choose an appropriate border with flowers or paw prints, for instance.

    • 3

If you plan to include a favorite photograph of the pet, decide whether you want it inside the card or on the cover. If you're doing your card by computer, you can download the picture directly to the card. For homemade cards, you can simply lay the photo inside the card, use a card with slits designed to hold a photo, or affix the photo to the card with a small amount of double-sided tape.

If possible, include the years of the pet's birth and death with the photo. If you aren't sure of the pet's age, ask the owner or another family member.
