Teach your dog to stay. It does not have to be a perfect stay; you just need your dog to hold the stay position for about 15 seconds. Practice your stay command in different places. Start in non-distracting areas working up to more distracting areas.

Once your dog has a pretty good stay command, do some practice runs. Have a friend sit in a chair and walk up with your dog. Have your dog do the stay at your friend's side and walk a few feet away. Most people seem to like just their dog and Santa in the photo. If you don't want to be in the picture with your dog, spend some time doing this exercise.

The day of the picture give your dog a nice long run or walk. It will be much more difficult to get the perfect photo if your dog is loaded with pent-up energy.

When you go to the photo session take some treats and toys with you. Bring a toy that squeaks. If you can, stand behind the photographer. Once you're behind the photographer, squeak the toy. This will get your dog to look right at the photographer.

Before walking in for the session, make sure your dog has had the opportunity to pee and poop. Most places get a little upset when your dog squats on the floor.

Once you have the perfect photo, give your dog a treat and bring her outside. Sometimes the excitement of the event will speed up your dog's digestive system.

Share your dog's picture with friends and family. Make Christmas cards out of them, email them to friends and put them up on your website if you have one.
