Instructions

Design a poster using bright colors. Write the words "Reward" or "Pet Missing" in big, block letters. Do not uses flowery writing and do not use cursive. Remember that your poster should be easy to read for people who may be driving by in their cars. You need to grab their attention.

Position a large picture of your pet underneath the message. Don't make the mistake of using a small photo. Your pet should be instantly and quickly recognizable in the photo. If the best picture you have is a group shot of your pet with the family, use the photo-editing program on your computer to crop the photo so it shows only the animal. Then, enlarge the photo as much as you can. Choose a photo that includes your pet's entire body, showing all markings, height, typical body stance and hair type. A face portrait of the pet is not advisable because much more information can be conveyed with the full-body picture.

Write information about your pet under the picture. Keep it brief, but include the pet's name, breed, where it was lost and your contact information. For safety, do not include your name or address -- just your phone number. Next, describe the pet's disposition, markings and unusual visual characteristics. If you are offering a reward, do not include the amount of the reward.

Produce several copies of your poster. Put some on 22-inch-by-28-inch poster board, and staple or nail them to poles. Re-create your posters by having them photocopied as 8 1/2-by-11 fliers. These may be handed out or posted on public bulletin boards.
