Instructions
Feed your dog more often (two to three times a day). Sometimes dogs may mistake poop for food especially if your dog is blind or cannot see well. If your dog is constantly hungry and you are only feeding him/her once a day, this may not be enough. You do not have to feed them a lot each time but space out their meals like you do your own.
Keep the dogs kennel or living quarters free from poop. If you remove the poop they will not have any poop to eat. Removal is a good method but can be harder to manage with several animals.Monitor them when they are outside, keeping them away from the waste. If you walk your dog with a leash, this will be easier to monitor.
Season the poop. If there is a food or spice that your dog absolutely hates, put some of this on and in some poop. This will begin to make them associate poop with something they distaste.
Let them know that you forbid this behavior. Most dogs continue to eat the poop because they do not get any negative feedback from their master when eating poop. Be sure to tell them “No” or “Bad Dog” when you see them doing this behavior. Use a command that your dog will understand.
Check with your vet or pet supply store for chewable tablets to stop Coprophagia or poop eating. These products typically cost less than fifteen dollars and are given once a day for at least two weeks. Some of these products are: Deter tablets, NaturVet Stool Deodorizer Plus and NutriVet Nasty Habit for Dogs.
