Board your dog at a local kennel, but make sure it is a clean and safe environment. Bring familiar items like a ball or other toy to help your dog feel comfortable. A shirt or blanket with your scent on it is also suggested. Many veterinarians have boarding services, as do pet stores like PetSmart. Most boarding facilities ask that you have proof of your dog's immunizations, so make sure to have health records handy.
Leave your dog at home where it is comfortable and ask a friend or family member to check in periodically to make sure there is adequate food and water and to let the dog out so there are no accidents to clean. You can also hire someone to check in on your dog. Check references first to make sure the person can be trusted and also set scheduled times for dog checks.
Leave your dog in the home of a hired pet sitter. Like with a kennel, leave familiar toys and objects to make your dog comfortable. Again, check references before hiring the sitter and it is often a good idea to let your pet visit the home before your scheduled vacation. You can also save money by asking a friend or family member to keep your dog in her home while you are away.
