How to Rescue a Chihuahua in Colorado
Prepare your home well in advance of selecting your rescue Chihuahua. They are very small dogs and can squeeze into tight spaces, so remove any hazardous items.
Contact local shelters and rescue organizations to let them know of your interest in rescuing a Chihuahua. The Chihuahua Club of America and the Chihuahua and Small Dog Rescue, Inc., are organizations that maintain current listings of available Chihuahua for adoption in Colorado.
Visit any Chihuahuas at the rescue center you might be interested in adopting personally. Seeing a dog in person is the best way to determine how well he will fit into your home. Review and sign any required contracts once you have decided which Chihuahua you wish to adopt.
Call you vet to schedule an appointment for your new Chihuahua. You vet will check over your new dog to make sure she is free of illness and disease before you take her home.
Introduce your new Chihuahua to your family slowly. Allow your current animals to greet him at their own pace. Be sure that family members do not overhandle and place any undue stress on your new Chihuahua.
Place you new Chihuahua’s crate in a quiet spot and allow him time to settle in. Give him plenty of toys to play with and a comfortable place to rest.
Feed your new dog in an area separate from your other pets for a few days. This will give you a chance to monitor her food and water intake to be sure your new Chihuahua is settling in well.
