How to Love Your Dog

All dog owners have affection for their animals. New dog owners may be in a state of confusion, though. There are so many choices and lots of misinformation about being a great dog owner and companion. You may think it is a simple task; food, water and shelter are all they require to be happy. That is not entirely true. Dogs need to know that their family loves them as unconditionally as the animal loves the family.

      Spend time with your dog, and encourage all members of the family to do the same. It is very important. Dogs feel neglected when a member does not care for the animal as much as the rest of the group.

      Give your canine friend space. Roaming room is important for both larger and smaller dogs. A small animal may be able to live comfortably in an apartment or condo. Larger dogs needs room to run.

      Show affection towards your dog. It will help him know that he is loved and wanted in the household. Express to him how good they are, pet them, brush them and generally show them attention.

      Allow the dog to have a warm and quiet place in the home. His own place will make him feel comfortable. He needs an area of his own to feel safe and secure. This could be a quiet place in a room that has their favorite blanket and toy.

      Walk the dog twice a day. Such a thing will show the animal that you enjoy spending time with him. Dogs become extremely excited when this activity is brought to their attention.

      Buy or make toys for him to chew on or play with. This is important as well. A dog needs a toy as much as a child needs one.

      Play with your dog. It will make both of you happy. It is a great way to show that he is an important member of the family. Dogs love to run, fetch and roll around with children as well as adults. Play time can be a fabulous bonding experience.
