How to Kill Fleas in Carpets Fast

Fleas can be brought into your home by outdoor animals or by humans who have been exposed to fleas. Once inside your home, they can multiply rapidly and cause irritation to all those affected. Fleas in your carpets are notoriously difficult to get rid of, and you may think you have to call an exterminator. There is a solution that uses no toxic chemicals, but be aware that it does not remove all the flea eggs and will have to be repeated.

Things You'll Need

  • 1 1/2 lbs diatomaceous earth
  • 1 1/2 lbs natural borax
  • 1 cup salt

Instructions

    • 1

Remove all pets from the infested area, and keep the area closed to all traffic. You will have to leave the mixture on the carpets for a day or two undisturbed.

    • 2

Mix the diatomaceous earth, the natural borax and the salt together.

    • 3

Sprinkle the mixture on any carpets that are infested by fleas.

    • 4

Let the mixture sit. Leave it for a day or two. Vacuum up the mixture.

    • 5

Repeat as necessary. Fleas lay eggs every day, and it takes two to 12 weeks for the eggs to hatch. Adult fleas can live up to a year without feeding. Because fleas constantly lay eggs, you may have to repeat this treatment many times depending on the severity of your flea problem.
