How to Register a Dog With the CKC

You spent a long time picking out the perfect dog for you and your family, and you went the extra mile to make sure it was purebred from a reputable breeder. Now all that's left to do is register your dog with the Canadian Kennel Club (CKC). You need a little information to start the process, but you'll begin to enjoy the benefits of having a CKC-registered dog almost immediately.

Instructions

    • 1

Talk to the breeder. To register a dog with the CKC, it must first come from a registered litter. This is the breeder's responsibility, so make sure to ask for the registration papers when you pick up your new puppy. The breeder should be able to supply you with the registration number and any other information that you may need to fill out the registration forms.

    • 2

Get the proper forms. The breeder should give the application to you, but if you can't locate a copy, you can get one directly from the CKC.

    • 3

Fill out the form, submit it and include the proper fee. It should take anywhere from 7 to 10 days to receive your certificate of registration.

    • 4

Understand the rules. Registering a dog with the CKC is possible if it's already registered with the American Kennel Club (AKC) or imported from another country, but there are additional forms to fill out. So do your research, and make sure that you follow the rules.
