Where did the proverb let sleeping dogs lie come from?
The proverb "let sleeping dogs lie" is derived from the Latin proverb "canem dormientem nunquam temere moveto", which translates to "never rashly disturb a sleeping dog". The earliest recorded use of the phrase in English is in John Heywood's 1546 work, _A dialogue conteinyng the nomber in effect of all the proverbes in the englishe tongue_.
