How long do elf owls take care of their babies?
Elf owls are small owls native to the southwestern United States and Mexico. These birds are known for their distinctive appearance, with large, round eyes and long tail feathers. Elf owls typically lay between two and four eggs, which are incubated by both parents for around 28 days. The chicks fledge from the nest at around 30 days old, but they continue to be cared for by their parents for several weeks after this. When they are about 45 - 50 days old, the owlets are completely independent and hunt on their own. Once they leave the nest, they will often roost with other elf owls during the day.
