What does the female orangutan look like?

Female orangutans are very similar in appearance to males, but there are some key differences:

Size and Weight:

* Smaller: Females are significantly smaller than males. An adult female typically weighs between 30-60 kg (66-132 lbs), while an adult male can weigh 50-100 kg (110-220 lbs).

* Shorter: Females are also shorter than males.

Facial Features:

* Less prominent cheek pads: While males develop large, fleshy cheek pads on their faces, females have smaller, less prominent cheek pads.

* Smaller throat sacs: Males have large throat sacs that inflate when they call, but females have much smaller sacs.

* Less pronounced brow ridges: While males develop prominent brow ridges over their eyes, females have less pronounced ridges.

Other Physical Characteristics:

* Darker fur: Females tend to have slightly darker fur than males.

* Less robust build: Females are generally more slender and have a less muscular build than males.

Overall: Female orangutans are characterized by their smaller size, less pronounced facial features, and darker fur compared to males. They still retain the overall orangutan features like long, reddish-brown hair, long arms, and a slow, deliberate movement.
