What makes a California sea lion different than other lions?

California sea lions aren't actually lions at all! They are pinnipeds, a group of marine mammals that also includes seals, walruses, and fur seals. Here's why they're different:

* They're not related to lions: Sea lions belong to the family Otariidae, while lions belong to the family Felidae. They are completely different species with distinct evolutionary histories.
