How to Get Skinks From Their Burrows?

A skink can dig a burrow more than 1 meter deep and 5 meters wide. There can be many tunnels going into that burrow and to other locations. A skink may live in that same burrow for many years with other skinks. Outside of the opening will be an area of fecal mater made by the skinks, and this is how you can identify a skink burrow. When a skink has become a nuisance to you or when you need to get it out of its burrow, there are a few options you can try.

Instructions

    • 1

Put out a bowl of water with a stick leading into it. The skink will use the stick to go into the water to drink or rest. The easy access to water will become a favorite spot of the skink and it will return repeatedly.

Use live bait. Many skinks are carnivores and live off insects and spiders. A larger skink may even feed off of other lizards and small mammals. Skinks don't have to eat every day but they will if the food is abundant. Drop crickets and grasshoppers in front of and inside the skinks' burrow.

    • 3

Place fresh vegetation around the burrow. Some skinks are omnivores meaning they eat both vegetables and meat. Lure them out of hiding with fresh lettuce or carrots placed by the exterior of their burrow.

Irrigate their burrows. Place a hose into one of the tunnels and let the water run. Don't flood the burrow. Allow the skink to come out.
