How to Catch an Abandoned Baby Chipmunk

Baby chipmunks can tug on your heartstrings, and many people take pleasure in leaving treats out for them and providing food. However, if a baby chipmunk has been abandoned and the parents are nowhere to be found then you may need to take matters into your own hands a bit. For that you need a trap that will catch the baby chipmunk without doing it actual harm. Such traps are relatively easy to find.

Instructions

    • 1

Set up a humane trap. These are traps that are specially geared to catch, rather than kill, rodents that enter them.

    • 2

Place the bait in the trap. Chipmunks tend to like nuts, and if you leave nuts in your trap it should attract baby chipmunks who see the treat, but who aren't wily enough to realize the inherent danger of a trap.

    • 3

Set the trap out near the area where you've seen the baby chipmunk. If you see the baby wandering near a certain tree, or around the mouth of a burrow then leave the trap in that area. Don't hang around, but watch and check the trap visually to see if you've caught the chipmunk.
