Common Animals Heard in Jungle Movies

In movies which take place in jungles, viewers may see a variety of animals. However, these movies may only use an animal's sound as part of the audio, but not actually show them on screen, which leaves the viewer wondering what they might be. Commonly heard jungle animals include reptiles, amphibians, mammals and birds.
  1. Reptiles

    • A commonly heard reptile in the jungle is the snake, which often makes a hissing sound. A popular type of snake in jungles is the python. A python can grow as large as 33 feet, weigh as much as 250 pounds and live as old as 35 years. Crocodiles and alligators are other vocal reptiles that may be heard in the jungle, with their growls and bellows.

    Amphibians

    • A popular amphibian heard in jungles is the frog. Over 4,000 species of frogs are in existence, with the longest known being 13.5 inches and the smallest being less than 1 inch. Frogs are famous for their croaking sound which is often used by the male frogs to call the females. Frogs can live anywhere from one to 30 years.

    Mammals

    • A large variety of mammals can be heard in the jungles. Popular mammals inhabiting jungles include the tiger and the monkey. The tiger is known for its growl and its roar, while the monkey is known for its screaming sound. Six subspecies of tigers are known, and over 196 species of monkeys. Tigers can live between 15 to 20 years in the wild, while monkeys can live from 10 years to as much as 50 years.

    Birds

    • A number of birds inhabit jungles and can be quite vocal, with one of the most notable being the parrot. The number of species of parrots is 279, with the longest being 40 inches and the shortest 3 inches. The life span of the parrot varies depending on the species and ranges from 10 to 60 years. Parrots are known for imitating human voices, but they also make various squawking and screeching sounds. Besides parrots, a common jungle bird is the toucan. Toucans come in 34 species and make calls which are clearly audible.
