How to Make a Toy for a Squirrel

Squirrels are a lively species of mammal that live throughout the entire world with the exception of Australia. Squirrels can be seen collecting food, leaping branch to branch, and scurrying along the ground everywhere from city parks to the forest. In some states, squirrels can be kept as pets. Pet squirrels require toys to keep them active and stimulated. The playful and curious nature of squirrels make them fun to observe.

Instructions

    • 1

Buy a stuffed animal either the same size or smaller than the squirrel. Wash it with gentle soap and water to remove any chemicals or germs. Remove the eyes, nose, and any other small pieces from the stuffed animal. These can be choking hazards for a squirrel.

    • 2

Drill a hole in one of the corners of a 3- to 5-inch square block of wood. The hole should be large enough to allow a needle and thread to pass through easily. Sand down any rough edges.

    • 3

Sew the block of wood onto the stuffed animal by running the needle and thread through the hole in the wood block and into the fabric. Repeat this three times or until the block is securely attached. This will provide a place for the squirrel to chew without destroying the stuffed animal.
