How to Feed Yellow Tile Starfish

Yellow tile starfish earned their names from the nodes or "tiles" along their bodies. Closely related to sand dollars and sea urchins, all starfish or sea stars are echinoderms. The yellow tile starfish mostly eats meat. In the wild, it feeds on clams, smaller starfish, fish and shrimp. Create healthy meals for your pet yellow tile starfish by using ingredients it would choose in the wild.

Instructions

    • 1

Put the shrimp, shellfish and spinach or seaweed into a food processor. Puree the ingredients.

    • 2

Mix in the liquid vitamin and Artemia. Stir with a spoon.

    • 3

Scoop the ingredients into an ice cube tray. Wrap the ice cube tray with high-quality aluminum foil. Place the ice cube tray into a gallon-size freezer bag. Place the bag into the freezer.

    • 4

Remove the frozen ice cube tray from the freezer when you are ready to feed for the first time. Wearing disposable gloves, remove the tray from the freezer bag and remove foil from only one cube of food.

    • 5

Run hot water over a paring knife. Slide the knife around the food cube, between the cube and the plastic tray to loosen it. Pop the cube out of the tray. Use the cheese grater to shave small bits of the food into a bowl. Allow the food to thaw.

    • 6

Wrap the individual cube in heavy-duty aluminum foil and place it into a smaller freezer bag. Place it back into the freezer. Use this cube for feeding until this cube has been depleted, before getting a new cube from the ice cube tray.

Feed 1 teaspoon per 100 gallons of aquarium water (depending upon bio-load of system) when the shaved food thaws, according to Reef Time Online. Feed two to three times a week.
