Instructions
Let your chimpanzee get used to holding your drawing pencils, brushes, and paper. Just like training any pet, it should know that these are not playthings by whether it is rewarded or reproached. This might take a few days or even weeks. Be patient.
Show your chimpanzee your bag of treats when you're ready to begin art lessons, but keep them out of its reach. Your pet should know that it will only be rewarded when it does what you ask it to.
Draw a simple diagram many times while the chimpanzee watches. Then, put the brush or pencil in the chimp's hand, and like you would do for a child, guide it in drawing the diagram many times. It will eventually start to mimic you.
Reward your chimp whenever it tries to copy your drawing. Vary your treats. The better the drawing, the better the reward. Eventually, the chimp might even be able to draw what you have asked without you holding its hand.
How to Teach Chimps to Draw Art
Teaching a chimpanzee to draw art is not as impossible as it sounds. It just takes patience and perseverance. Chimpanzees are the most closely related mammals to humans. They are smart, curious and very social creatures. Scientists study and communicate with them, and some chimpanzees have even learned to use sign language. They learn by trial and error, but they also learn by watching others. In the wild, young chimps learn how to survive from watching their mothers.
