How to Make a Degu Hammock

A Degu is a small rodent that has the appearance of a hamster, but is slightly smaller. They originally came from Chile, but are now popular pets and can be found throughout the world. They are very social creatures by nature and are diurnal, meaning that they sleep during the evening and are active during the day. Although you should provide them with some hay for sleeping, you can also make them a hammock.

Instructions

    • 1

Glue the two pieces of fabric together and wait for it to dry. It's best if one piece of the fabric is made from something soft like fleece. The other piece can be cotton.

    • 2

Make a cut using the scissors to 1/2 inch to the right and left of each corner, and make the cut about 1/4 inch deep, so each corner will have two cuts next to it for a total of eight cuts.

    • 3

Fold the material lengthwise toward the center of the fabric. Glue the fabric so that these creases stay. This will give you a square at each of the corners. Wait for the glue to dry.

    • 4

Poke a safety pin through each of the corners and hang your hammock from the top of your Degu's cage.

    • 5

Place your pet degu into the hammock the first time, or put some food in it so that they will climb in on their own.
