Instructions
Take your bird to your veterinarian if you suspect parasites. Your vet can confirm the parasites and recommend treatment products. You can follow guidelines from other sources, but the advice of your veterinarian should always be followed first.
Learn how to administer the medication to kill the parasites on your bird. This can be a topical treatment, such as a spray, an oral medication or an injection. Your vet can show you the best way to administer these medications for your particular bird species.
Remove and discard any bedding or food in your bird's cage right after you treat your bird for parasites.
Apply a product that will kill the mites in the cage. This will likely be a powder or a spray. Check with your vet first to make sure the product you choose is safe to use with your bird and that it will effectively kill the mites.
Continue to change bedding every few days to get rid of live and dead mites. Retreat your bird and the cage with the treatment products as recommended by the label or your veterinarian.
