How to Keep a Snake's Humidity High

Various types of snakes require different degrees of humidity in a caged environment. Snakes that originate from South American regions will need high humidity, as their home climate receives a large amount of rainfall. Desert snakes that originate from the American Southwest will need a lower humidity temperature.

Instructions

    • 1

Find out what humidity temperature your pet snake requires. This will vary, depending on the species of your snake, from 30 to 90 percent.

    • 2

Place the indoor hygrometer in a corner of the room where your snake's cage resides. This will tell you the humidity level outside the cage. Attach the terrarium hygrometer inside the snake's cage to measure the humidity level inside the cage.

    • 3

Add a large water dish in your pet snake's cage to increase the humidity level if it reads low. Put the water dish near the heated pad of the cage to increase the humidity as quickly as possible.

    • 4

Place plastic wrap on top of the screen lid over only the portion of the cage that contains the water dish. This will lower ventilation but still allow your pet access to fresh air.

    • 5

Mist the cage once or twice daily to add moisture and to increase the humidity level in the cage.
