How to Feed Australian Freshwater Lobster

The Australian freshwater lobster, more commonly known as the Australian crayfish, is easy to maintain and care for. The crayfish thrives in hard water with some alkaline pH (7.5 to 8.5). If you want your crayfish to survive, do not introduce species that will feed on them such as large goldfish. Make sure the tank they are kept in is covered or you may return home to find them wondering around the house.

Instructions

    • 1

Feed crayfish twice a day. If you are not using live feed, make sure that there are plenty of pellets, plants or vegetables for your crayfish to feed on.

    • 2

Add minnows or guppies to your tank. The crayfish will naturally hunt and eat small fish swimming in its domain. Oftentimes they will wait with a claw open and ready until a fish swims through it, grabbing and eating them.

    • 3

Feed the crayfish shrimp. Shrimp is the natural food source for crayfish and high in protein. This is especially important if the crayfish is still young.
