Perhaps the most important part of raising Canadian nightcrawlers at home is what you feed them and how often you do it.

      Put a small plate in the worm bin. The food should not mix with the soil as it could cause mold problems.

      Fill the plate with food scraps. Nightcrawlers like green vegetables, fruit peelings, stale bread and tea or coffee grounds. The amount of food needed depends on the amount of nightcrawlers. For the first time, feed them more than you think they can eat.

      Check the amount of food they eat after three days to help determine a proper amount. Remove any food scraps after three days and replace it with fresh food.

      Continue to remove and replace the food every three days. Keep in mind that nightcrawlers reproduce quickly, so the amount of food needed to feed them will also increase.
