How to Build a Spinning Squirrel Feeder Circus

Squirrels can be delightful to watch when they are playing and searching for food on your lawn. For a little more entertainment, you may wish to build a spinning squirrel feeder. This will keep the squirrels out of your bird feeders and give them plenty of food to eat right in your own yard. This squirrel feeder uses corn as the squirrel food. It is an easy and inexpensive project the whole family can enjoy.

Things You'll Need

  • Hammer
  • 5 large nails
  • 2 Pine cones dipped in syrup and coated with birdseed
  • 2 1-foot long 1-by-2-inch boards
  • 2 corn cobs

Instructions

    • 1

Hammer one nail about an inch from both ends of each board. These nails will be used to attach the corn and Pine cones, so make sure that the nails are long enough to hammer an ear of corn onto.

    • 2

Position the two boards so that they form an X shape. The sharp ends of the nails should be pointed up. Attach the boards together and to the tree by hammering another large nail right through the center of the X and into the tree where you wish to place the squirrel feeder.

    • 3

Attach the Pine cones to the ends of one board using the nails you have hammered into it. Attach the corn cobs to nails on the other board. Your feeder should spin freely when a squirrel stands on it to eat the Pine cones or corn.
