Things You'll Need
- Untreated plywood
- Electricdrill
- Saw
- Nails
- Hammer
Instructions
Decide what size box is needed for your birds. Then, measure out four square sides on your plywood. Make sure to lay the plywood on a level surface to measure and mark, so that all the sides will be even.
Cut four squares in your plywood with your saw, according to the marks you made in the previous step. You should now have four square pieces of plywood ready to assemble into a box shape.
Drill a hole where the opening to the box should be. Then, using your saw complete the hole, make it an appropriate size so the birds can easily fit through. Make sure not to make the hole too close to the bottom of the box---midway up the middle is fine. You don't want to make it possible for any chicks to fall out of the nest.
Drill two holes in the back of the box so that you can easily affix the box in the cage or aviary.
Assemble the box after all pieces have been cut and appropriate holes have been drilled. Using your hammer and nails, build the box. Make sure you have the drilled opening as the front of the box. Hammer the nails as tightly as possible as to not entice the birds to chew them. Use stainless steel nails or nickle plated nails, to prevent any possible lead poisoning.
