Instructions
Educate yourself on the types of chimp adoption programs to which you might want to donate. One type, such as the World Wildlife Fund and the Jane Goodall Institute, raises money for the funding of wildlife habitat preservation and education projects. Another type is a chimpanzee rescue shelter, such as Fauna Foundation and Save the Chimps. They provide a permanent home for chimps abused by humans. A third type is one in which you can adopt a chimp at a zoo, such as the Detroit Zoo in Michigan.
Choose one or two organizations that look promising to you and thoroughly research them. Request information from them such as financial reports and other literature. Visit their websites and check with the Better Business Bureau for more information.
Decide the amount of donation you are willing to give once you have made your choice. Most organizations, such as the ones listed above, have levels to choose from within their adoption programs, but you can also usually choose to donate any other amount that fits your budget.
Contact the organization you choose either through their web site, with a personal visit, via postal letter, or by telephone and follow the directions they provide about how to adopt. Each organization will have a slightly different program. Many institutions will send you an adoption kit in return for donating.
