Things You'll Need
- Birdhouse Various raw seeds and nuts, such as: Pecans Walnuts Acorns Sunflower seeds Pumpkin seeds Button mushrooms
Instructions
Assemble the birdhouse according to its instructions. Depending on the house, it may be free standing on its own pole or may be hung off a tree branch.
Prepare the food mixture. If using the mushrooms, cut them in half lengthwise and remove from the seeds any foreign objects such as plastics.
Carefully fill the birdhouse with the various prepared foods. Place the birdhouse in an outdoor area, preferably near trees and shade.
If attempting to attract a pet flying squirrel, place and hold the seeds in your pockets. Your scent should transfer onto the seeds, making the squirrel bond with your scent easier.
You may call out to your squirrel while holding out the food in the palm of your hand. Depending on how comfortable it becomes with you, it may take them straight from your hand.
