Build Your Own Iguana Cage

Iguanas are wonderful pets, and over time become friendly enough to hang out on the couch while you're watching television, or keep you company while you cook dinner. Just because your iguana is friendly enough to have loose in the house, doesn't mean you don't need an iguana cage, a place you can put them when you're not home, or somewhere your iguana can go when it needs to get away from its human companions.
Building your own iguana cage is an excellent way to make sure it fits into your house. Purchasing the building materials and making your own cage will save you money.

Instructions

  1. Building a Temporary Iguana Cage out of a Rubbermaid Container

    • 1

Purchase the largest Rubbermaid container you can find.

    • 2

Line the bottom of the container with Astroturf.

    • 3

Cover the top of the tote with chicken wire. To prevent the chicken wire from getting knocked off, curl the edges tightly under the Rubbermaid container lip.

How to Make a Large Outdoor Iguana Cage out of Chicken Wire

    • 4

Purchase 10 feet of chicken wire.

    • 5

You and a friend should each grasp one end of the chicken wire. Bring the two ends together, forcing the wire to bend and form a giant circle.

    • 6

Have your friend hold the two pieces of wire together. While holding the wire, you should use a pair of wire cutters and cut several small pieces of electric fence.

    • 7

Twist the bits of electric fence around both ends of the chicken wire, joining the pieces. Make sure that the twisted ends of the electric fence are on the outside of the enclosure.

    • 8

Bend over the chicken wire and gently place your iguana on the ground.

How to Turn an Aquarium into an Iguana Cage

    • 9

Find an aquarium large enough to accommodate your iguana. The height of your iguana's cage should be approximately half of your iguana's length. The cage should be three iguana lengths long, and two iguana lengths wide.

    • 10

Line the bottom of the aquarium with Astroturf.

    • 11

Cover the top of the aquarium with the lid.
