How to Kill Sand Hornets

Sand hornets are a pesky group of insects. They live in burrows in the ground, and when they are stepped on or threatened they sting. The steps for eliminating them are pretty easy though, and will leave your lawn free of them.

Instructions

    • 1

Purchase some pesticide powder. Read the label and make sure that it is appropriate for hornets or wasps. Purchase one that comes with an applicator tip or syringe.

    • 2

Look for the sand hornet burrows on the ground. It may be helpful to sit and watch where they are coming from, so that you can locate the hole.

    • 3

Use the included applicator tip or syringe to insert the pesticide powder several times into the opening of the hole. If no applicator was included with your powder, you can use a stick to make the top of the hole a little larger, so that the powder can be poured in.

    • 4

Leave the area quickly, as agitated sand hornets may try to attack you. The powder will get on the wings of the hornets as they enter and leave the hole, killing them within a day or two.

    • 5

Check the holes again in a week or two to ensure that the sand hornets have not moved back in. If they have, repeat the process as needed.
