How to Make a Kangaroo Leash

In some places, kangaroos can be kept as pets. If you keep kangaroos in a large, temperate environment with a proper diet, they can make wonderful and entertaining pets. You can take your kangaroo for walks with a kangaroo leash and harness. You can purchase a harness from a supplier and adapt a dog leash or you can make your own leash. One kind of kangaroo leash is the slip leash.

Instructions

    • 1

Determine the weight of your kangaroo. Ensure the "pound of pressure" rating for your "O" or "D" rings exceeds your kangaroo's weight.

    • 2

Measure the kangaroo's neck and the distance you want between your hand to the kangaroo's neck. Add these measurements together and add 2 inches for the ring and 5 inches for the handle. This will probably be somewhere between 4 to 6 feet long, depending on your height and your kangaroo's height.

Make the slip. Pull 2 inches of leather through the "O" ring, and fold the leather over. With a needle and thread, sew the two pieces together up to 1/2 inch from the ring. Sew up and down the leather several times to make a sturdy hold.

Make the handle. From the opposite end, measure 5 inches and fold the material over. Sew the bottom 2 inches of the material up and down, creating a sturdy handle.

Leash your kangaroo. Pull the lead through the "O" ring so you create a loop on the opposite end of the handle. Facing your kangaroo, slip the loop over his head so the leash forms a "P" shape, then lead your kangaroo from his left side (the kangaroo will be on your right).
