What are wekas predators?

* New Zealand Falcons (Falco novaeseelandiae): These small falcons are the weka's main predators, and they specialise in hunting them. New Zealand falcons often target young or sick wekas, and they can even take on adult wekas if they are caught off guard.

* Stoats (Mustela erminea): Stoats are another introduced predator that has had a devastating impact on the weka population. Stoats are small, agile predators that can easily kill and eat wekas of all ages.

* Domestic dogs (Canis lupus familiaris): Domestic dogs are also a threat to wekas, especially if they are not kept under control. Dogs can kill and eat wekas, and they can also disturb weka nests and cause the eggs or chicks to be abandoned.

* Feral cats (Felis catus): Feral cats are another introduced predator that can kill and eat wekas. Cats are especially a threat to wekas in urban areas, where they often live in close proximity to weka populations.

* Rats (Rattus norvegicus and R. rattus): Rats can also be a threat to wekas, especially when they are young or sick. Rats can also compete with wekas for food and shelter.
