What type of lions are endangered?

The critically endangered Asiatic lion (Panthera leo persica) is found only in the Gir Forest National Park and Wildlife Sanctuary in Gujarat, India. The West African lion (Panthera leo senegalensis) is also considered to be critically endangered, with a population estimated to be less than 400 individuals. The Barbary lion (Panthera leo leo), once found in North Africa, is now extinct in the wild, although there are captive populations. The endangered Masai lion (Panthera leo massaica) is found in East Africa, and the vulnerable Katanga lion (Panthera leo bleyenberghi) is found in southern Africa.
