What is the most endangered animal and how many are left?

According to the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN), the most endangered animal in the world is the northern white rhinoceros (Ceratotherium simum cottoni). As of July 2023, there are only two surviving northern white rhinos, both of which are female. They are living under 24-hour armed guard at the Ol Pejeta Conservancy in Kenya.
